Now in his fifth year as coach of the Wisconsin Badgers football team, Bret Bielema has experienced the highs and lows of college football. From his first season in 2006 when the Badgers went 12-1 and finished the year with an impressive win over Arkansas in the Capital One Bowl to the dreadful 2008 season in which they finished 7-6 and were embarrassed by Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl, Bielema has seen both love and hate from Wisconsin faithful.

The last week and a half tested both my physical and emotional strength as an athlete. At some points I faltered and others prospered beyond expectations. While competing for the starting quarterback job, I was taking reps on the defensive side of the ball at safety. I took the coaches by surprise when I made the first play on scout team. I even had our offensive coordinator come up to me and say, "We didn't know you were a football player. We thought you were just a quarterback. Hell, man, that's a big compliment to you, I think."

In Beloit's first game of the season, Connelly's hat trick provided Beloit's only three goals and earned them a win over Wisconsin Lutheran College, 3-1. The game earned Connelly the honor of being named the Midwest Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
